William “Bill” Freid, born on May 17, 1938, passed away on July 2, 2026, leaving behind a legacy defined by love for family, unwavering faith, and an indomitable work ethic.

Bill was born to Bill and Rose Freid and had 3 siblings (Ray, Delores, and Roger). He attended Montgomery High School  Bill then went on the Graduate from St. Thomas College.  Bill met the love of his life Valerie at a dance hall.  They were married for 60 years and loved spending every minute with each other.  Bill had 4 children (Bill, Julie, James, and Paul) and 7 grandchildren.

Bill’s favorite way to spend his time was in the company of his family. He especially loved being with his grandchildren and often delighted in taking his family out to dine at local restaurants. These gatherings were some of his happiest moments, characterized by laughter, connection, and the sharing of stories. Family was always his greatest joy.

A keen follower of current events, Bill had a passion for understanding the world and loved everything Ronald Regan.  He enjoyed listening to the news, reading the newspaper daily, and engaging in spirited discussions about politics. Conversations with Bill were always thought-provoking, enlivened by his insight and curiosity.

Travel was another meaningful aspect of Bill’s life. His work as a traveling salesman took him to many places, and he often brought his family along on these journeys, turning work trips into memorable family vacations. Through these travels, he shared with his loved ones not only the beauty of new destinations but also the importance of adventure and togetherness.

Bill’s reputation as a joker was well-earned. His sense of humor and love for telling jokes left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He carried his signature wit with him throughout the Midwest, spreading smiles and laughter as he went about his work.

His faith sustained him throughout his life—he was a devoted churchgoer who attended daily mass faithfully as an adult, instilling spiritual values in his children by example. Bill embodied his beliefs by living with kindness, generosity, and a humble sense of purpose.

As one of the last independent traveling salesmen, Bill exemplified hard work and determination. His dedication to his profession was matched only by his integrity and commitment to providing for his family.
