Rayford J. Cerny

Rayford Cerny, born on June 26, 1978, passed away on July 28, 2026.

Ray is survived by his parents Jack and Deb (Lance) Cerny, his three children, Chelsie (Sergio) DeLuna, Jovan Cerny, Eve Cerny, his sister Joanne (John) Grzetic his brothers Bob and Brian (Jill) Cerny, his grandson Mateo DeLuna, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and his Aunt Carol who all loved him very much.

Rayford was most notably recognized for his service as an Army Veteran, a role he carried with honor and deep commitment. His dedication to his country exemplified the values of courage and selflessness, earning the respect of peers and loved ones alike. He retired from the Army National Guard after 20 years of service including serving in the Persian Gulf. While in service he earned numberous awards including; Army commendation Medal awarded 5 times, Army Achievement Medal awarded 5 times, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal awarded 2 times, Armed Forces Expeditionary medal, Kosovo Campaign Medal, Armed Forces Reserve medal with “M” Device, NATO Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas service Ribbon, Global war of Terrorism Service Medal, Army Lapel Button, Illinois Military Attendance Ribbon awarded 3 times, Illinois Lincoln Medal of Freedom, and The Illinois Long and Honorable ribbon.

Beyond his military service, Ray was best known as a caring son, beloved brother, supportive uncle and loving dad.  These titles were not mere labels, but reflections of the steadfast love, loyalty, and encouragement he provided throughout his life. He treasured his time with family including his cousins who were also very special to him.

Those who knew Ray remember him as a man whose passion for life was woven into every facet of his being. He cherished camping and cooking, activities where he found joy and comfort, often sharing these experiences with friends and family. Whether beneath the open sky or around a campfire, Rayford created memories that will endure in the hearts of those who had the privilege of his company.

As we remember Rayford Cerny, we celebrate a life marked by devotion—to family, to friends, his country and to his values. He will be missed dearly by all who knew him, remembered for the warmth of his presence and the strength of his character.
