Mark was born in Willmar, MN, the youngest of six children to Roy and Harriet (Hagen) Nelson. He was raised in Spicer, MN just feet from Green Lake, where he spent much of his childhood fishing, swimming, and playing with the family dog. He graduated from New London-Spicer High School in 1979, having played both basketball and baseball, and eventually made his way down to the Twin Cities to work at Andersen Windows in Bayport where he spent 30 years in various roles before retiring in 2016.
Mark married in 1989 to Kathleen Marie Wigen and had daughter Allison in 1991 and settled in Stillwater, MN. He eventually settled in White Bear Lake in 2019 and remained until his passing. In his younger days, Mark was an avid fisherman and nature lover. He often enjoyed camping, home renovation, auto repair, and anything where he could get his hands dirty. He was a solid lover of classic rock, old television programs, and a good grill out.
Mark passed peacefully at home with his daughter and trusty dog Rascal by his side. He is proceeded in death by his parents Roy and Harriet, as well as two brothers-in-law. He is survived by daughter Allison and Rascal the dog. Brothers Bruce (Betty) of Stillwater, MN, Brian (Joni) of Willmar, MN and sisters Linda Iverson of Rosemount, MN, Joan Swanson of Cushing, WI, and Becky (Dave) Rorvig of Cannon Falls, MN and numerous nieces and nephews. He was deeply loved and will be dearly missed by many people.
Mark has requested to be cremated and his ashes will be spread by immediate family in Green Lake in Spicer, MN at a later date.
