Lester John Dickinson Sr.

Lester John Dickinson Sr., aged 68, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2026 surrounded by love after a hard-fought battle with cancer. He is survived by his children, Lester Jr. (Sophie) and Sara (Chris); his sisters, Nancy (Kim) and Leslie (Richard); his nieces, Jennifer (Chris), Kelsey (JR), and Lauren (Zack); his nephew Michael; and his great nephew and nieces, Christopher, Elyse, and Alexandra. He is preceded in death by his loving parents, Lester and Doris.

Born and raised in Chicago, IL, Lester obtained his degree in engineering from the University of Illinois Chicago. He spent 30 years as a respected engineer working for the City of Chicago at O’Hare International Airport before retiring as an Assistant Chief. He continued working in engineering, working at Brookfield Zoo for many years, before eventually returning back to the airport, working with Descoto Inc. and Care Plus LLC as a Lead Inspector and Resident Engineer.

Lester loved aviation, evident by his career and even becoming a pilot in his personal time. He also cherished golf, fishing, boating, and anything outdoors. He had a deep love of animals, and took great joy in traveling and spending time with his children and family.

Known for his generosity, kindness, and a spirit that was both easygoing and humorous, Lester will be profoundly missed by all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, love, and laughter. He will be remembered as a loving father, brother, son, uncle, and friend.

Friends and family are invited to services, to be determined.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his honor to The American Cancer Society.
