John Greg Haras

John Greg Haras, 61, of Belvidere, Illinois, passed away on February 14, 2026.

Born on August 26, 1964, in Highland Park, Illinois, John was the son of John F. and Jane Haras of Marengo. He built a life defined by hard work, independence, and a deep appreciation for the outdoors. In his early days John worked at the family restaurant cooking right next to his father. He also worked as an arborist; he took pride in his tree work and respected the skill and discipline it required. Being outside, working with his hands, and caring for trees gave him real satisfaction.

Outside of his career, John loved the freedom of the open road, whether behind the wheel or riding a motorcycle. He was always thinking about his next tattoo, each one a bold mark of who he was and a reflection of his personality. He had a well-known sweet tooth and never passed up a good dessert.

John valued time with family and friends above all else. He showed up, spoke his mind, and lived life on his own terms. Those who knew him will remember his energy, humor, and the way he created lasting memories through simple, meaningful moments.

He was preceded in death by his father, John F. Haras. John is survived by his mother, Jane Haras; his children, Anton, Jordon, Ashley, and Sofia; his brother, Joseph; his sister, Jennifer; his nieces, Kierstin, Kayla, and Krystal; and many friends who will carry his memory forward.
