James Herbst

James "Jim" Herbst, born on April 21, 1983, in Golden Valley, Minnesota, left this world on April 15, 2026, in Cushing, Minnesota. Those who knew Jim will forever cherish memories of his warm spirit and the joy he found in the simple pleasures of life. Whether playing guitar, jamming with his boys, or spending peaceful moments at the cabin, Jim's energy and passion illuminated every room and every shared experience.

Jim's love for music resonated deeply; his fingers dancing over guitar strings brought comfort and connection to friends and family alike. He had an unyielding joy for fishing and listening to music, passions that allowed him to unwind and reflect, reminding those around him of the beauty in nature and melody.

A devoted father, Jim is survived by his beloved sons, Thomas and Teddy, whose mother is Brielle Wallace. He was dearly loved by his mother, Jan Vita, and her husband Bryan. Jim’s family also includes his sisters, Nicki Bourgeois and her husband Dave, and Kelly Herbst; as well as his brothers, Dave Vita and Aricka, and Dan Vita and Natalie. His legacy extends through his dear nieces, Allie and Violet, and nephews Brendan, Cayden, Landen, Aiden, and Matthew, each carrying a piece of his indomitable spirit and kindness.

Jim was preceded in death by his father, Ken Herbst, whose memory he held close to his heart. 

As we mourn the loss of a cherished soul, we also celebrate James "Jim" Herbst’s life—a life rich with love, laughter, and music. May his melodies continue to echo in the hearts of all who knew him, offering comfort and a reminder that his spirit will forever be part of their lives.
