George Maurer

George Maurer, born on April 30, 1933, passed away on July 6, 2026. 

A true jack of all trades, George's resourcefulness and ingenuity were evident to all who knew him. He was best known for building the home he shared with his wife from the ground up, demonstrating both remarkable skill and the quiet determination that characterized his approach to life. This home, set in Somerset, became the heart of countless memories, laughter, and love.

Gardening was one of George’s greatest loves. His happiest moments were spent among his garden beds and grapevines, carefully nurturing the plants that yielded both sustenance and beauty. Each spring, as the maple trees around his home came to life, he would tap them to collect sap and lovingly craft it into syrup—a tradition that brought sweetness not just to his table, but to all those around him. His efforts in growing grapes and transforming them into homemade wine reflected his appreciation for nature’s gifts and his ability to create joy from the world around him.

George’s hands were rarely still; if there was something needed, he would find a way to make or mend it. Whether building, tending, or crafting, he channeled his talents into enriching his surroundings and those fortunate enough to share in them.
