Frederick Isbell, beloved father, coach, mentor, and friend, born on February 10, 1981, passed away on April 25, 2026 after suffering a devastating stroke. His passing leaves an immeasurable loss in the hearts of his family, athletes, friends, and the many communities he touched throughout his life.

First and foremost, Fred was a father. His greatest joy was his five children: Anastacia, Magnus, Legion, Sevan, and Endehlia. He loved them deeply and poured his heart into being present for them, supporting them, and building a life centered around family. Whether at home, on the sidelines, or in the wrestling room, Fred's children were always at the center of his world.

Fred was also a dedicated and respected coach. He served as a wrestling coach at Orono High School and a football coach in Minnetonka, where he made a lasting impact on countless young athletes. To many, he was more than a coach — he was a mentor, encourager, role model, and steady presence. Fred showed up for others with commitment, heart, and strength, helping kids grow not only as athletes but as people.

Fred also had a remarkable gift in the kitchen. He attended culinary school, where his natural talent was fostered and refined through technique, discipline, and creativity. To those lucky enough to share a meal with him, Fred's cooking felt like magic. While it may have seemed easier to go out to eat, it often ended in disappointment because few meals could compare to his. Whether he was making surf and turf, a simple marinara sauce from scratch, or pulling together something quick from whatever happened to be in the pantry, Fred had a way of turning food into something memorable. Though he preferred a well-planned meal with the perfect ingredients, his true gift showed in his ability to create something wonderful with whatever he had. His cooking was one of the many ways he shared love with the people around him.

Outside of coaching, family, and cooking, Fred enjoyed the simple things that brought him peace and happiness. He loved fishing and appreciated the quiet moments spent outdoors. He also enjoyed playing video games, a hobby that allowed him to relax, have fun, and connect with others in his own way. These personal joys were part of what made Fred who he was — genuine, grounded, playful, and full of heart.

One of the greatest gifts Fred gave to those who loved him was teaching them to loosen up and have fun. He had a way of bringing out childlike joy in everyone around him. Whether he was spending unreasonable amounts of money on fireworks or arcades, sneaking up on someone just to see how high he could make them jump, or seizing every opportunity to rally a group for a tickle attack while the target laughed until they cried, Fred reminded people how to live in the moment. He helped others let go, laugh harder, and remember that life was meant to be enjoyed. His playfulness, humor, and ability to create joy out of ordinary moments will be deeply missed.

Those who knew Fred will remember his passion for coaching, his love for his family, his incredible cooking, his sense of humor, and the way he gave so much of himself to others. He had a gift for building relationships, encouraging young people, and making those around him feel supported. His impact on the wrestling mat, football field, around the dinner table, and in the lives of the families he served will not be forgotten.

Fred is survived by his beloved children, Anastacia, Magnus, Legion, Sevan, and Endehlia; Kristy and Maria, the mothers of his children; his father, Albert; his three biological brothers, Clayton, Jermaine, and Andre; his four brothers through adoption, Israel, Tra, JD, and Jonathan; and many other family members, friends, athletes, fellow coaches, and community members who loved him dearly.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Baker's Park on June 7. Additional details will be shared with family and friends as they become available.

Fred's family asks that everyone continue to keep his children and loved ones in their thoughts during this incredibly difficult time. His life, love, and legacy will live on through his children, the athletes he coached, the meals he made, the laughter he sparked, and the many lives he touched.

In Fred's memory, hold your people a little closer. Tell them you love them. Show up for one another. And please, take care of your health — this tragedy came with no clear signs leading up to it, and it is a heartbreaking reminder of how precious and fragile life can be.
