Obituary

In lieu of flowers, Barb asked that donations be made to Above the Clouds Milwaukee at https://abovethecloudsmilwaukee.com/support-us

Barb Melsheimer lived a full and beautiful life rooted in faith, love, creativity, and adventure. She was a woman of immense faith who trusted deeply in the Lord and found joy in sharing that love with others in a myriad of ways. While her passing leaves an immeasurable space in the hearts of those who loved her, Barb made it very clear that she did not want anyone focused on the day she left this earth. Instead, she wanted her life celebrated.

Barb fiercely loved her daughter, Melanie, and that love could be seen in every part of her life. She also cared deeply for her goddaughter, Ladonna, who held a very special place in her heart. Barb had a rare and beautiful gift for friendship, each friend mattered to her, and she had an extraordinary ability to nurture and maintain bonds that stretched back to childhood.

She had a spirit for adventure and found peace outdoors, especially near the water. Whether exploring somewhere new, soaking in nature, or simply enjoying time with the people she loved, Barb embraced life fully and encouraged others to do the same.

One of Barb's greatest passions was her nonprofit organization, Above the Clouds, which she founded with her best friend of 33 years, Linda Wade. Above the Clouds provides free art classes to children in the community. Over the course of 25 years, Barb poured her whole heart into this mission and touched the lives of more than 9,100 children. Through Above the Clouds, she helped countless young people discover confidence, joy, and self expression.

Barb leaves behind several beloved siblings, a host of nephews and nieces, and an innumerable circle of friends who will miss her deeply. Her legacy is one of faith, generosity, creativity, and deep, abiding love. She leaves behind a lifetime of memories that will continue to warm and inspire everyone fortunate enough to have known her.

To honor Barb's wishes, there will not be a traditional funeral service. Instead, family and friends are invited to celebrate her life on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at 4120 S Lake Dr. St. Francis, WI 53235. Guests are welcome to stop by anytime between 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to share stories, laughter, and memories of Barb. For those willing and able, please plan to write a favorite memory of Barb to share with the family. Note cards will be available at the venue.

Most importantly, Barb gave strict instructions that everyone wear bright colors and bring no sad faces, only joyful hearts as we celebrate the many wonderful years she shared with us and the peace she has now found at home with the Lord.
